17 The Sept-Rivières Entrepreneurship Committee hosted the second edition of their “cocktail hour” for National Entrepreneurship Day, and what a success it was! The event took place on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Jean-Marc Dion Theatre in Sept-Îles.
About 50 entrepreneurs and socioeconomic development actors from the Sept-Rivières RCM raised their glasses to entrepreneurship, and the evening’s theme, “Entrepreneurs, master networkers” (Entreprendre, c’est savoir bien s’entourer!). The Sept-Îles improv league put on mentorship-inspired skits, featuring entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs alike, in order to spread the word about the benefits of this professional relationship. The goal of the evening: to celebrate entrepreneurs and shine the spotlight on their involvement in the region. The evening also doubled as a networking activity for the Sept-Îles and Port-Cartier business community.
The committee had also committed to making this a green event. Its objective was to reduce waste, step up recycling and composting efforts, and compensate for the greenhouse gases produced by the organizers and participants. In total, the event produced the equivalent of 160 kg of CO2, which can be offset by planting one tree at a cost of approximately $5. However, during the event, the Entrepreneurship Committee decided to offer an additional sum to make the event carbon negative rather than simply carbon neutral, and donated $30 to Carbone Boréal. The Entrepreneurship Committee would like to extend particular thanks to Andrée-Anne Rouleau from the Corporation de protection de l’environnement de Sept-Îles for her valuable advice and extensive support throughout the organization of this climate-friendly event.
The committee was very pleased with the attendance for the second edition and plans to organize a third edition in 2014. The Sept-Rivières Entrepreneurship Committee would also like to congratulate all the entrepreneurs and remind them that networking and entrepreneurship go hand in hand!
